National Basketball League (NBA), the professional basketball league of Australia has signed the first Indian basketball player, Vishesh Bhriguvanshi. He is the former national captain of Indian basketball team. The player promised a one year training deal with the Adelaide 36ers on Thursday.
“A league in India is what I always wanted, but we still lack in that, so this opportunity makes me feel in top of the world. the NBL is one of the world’s biggest leagues after the NBA,” said Vishesh.
The contract that has been signed states that he will train with Adelaide based club and will only be eligible to play if he replaces an injured player.
“Vishesh is an exciting talent from India, renowned for his court presence and intuitive feel for the game,” Adelaide 36ers Chief Executive Officer Guy Hedderwick said.
25 year old Vishesh, standing tall at 195cm was firstly signed by the Dream Basketball Academy and they were the one who introduced him to Adelaide 36ers.
Speaking to TOI he states, ” Every player has a dream to play for a reputed league some day, and so it was my dream. Representing the nation is very different feelin, and I am definitely proud of that, but playing in a league like this has always been my dream and that is what keeps me motivated.”
The Indian captain has already played in the NBA Drafting Combine in Melbourne this year, achieving an average of 17.4 points and 4.5 assists per game.
