Have you visited Lakhudiyar Caves in Uttarakhand?

Lakhudiyar means “One Lakh Caves”. It is located in the state of Uttarakhand in India. Lakhudiyar is located at a distance of 13 kms. from Almora, on Almora-Sheraghat road.

Antique paintings are carried out on a large rock inside the cave that can still be seen. It is believed that they were made by primitive humans during the prehistoric era.In these paintings, their daily life, animals and hunting methods are done through the fingers in the colors Black, Red and White. It was discovered in 1968 by the famous historian Dr. Yashwant Singh Katoch. Lakhudiyar Caves of Almora, Uttarakhand have been considered as a living evidence of the past of humans. According to historians, these caves belong to the prehistoric era, where there are a large number of rock paintings.

We think primitive humans lived here, all of these paintings were made by them only.Even today some pictures are being seen, but some pictures may have been erased due to sun and rain and some people have tried to erase those pictures even after writing their names.

Lakhudiyar is also a very nice picnic place that is surrounded by pine trees on all sides and the river that flows down is also visible. Here we can see a lot about history with family and friends while enjoying the wonderful nature.

There is Lakhudiyar that is an attractive center of Pre- historic art. This painted stone shelter is located on a steep high rock on the right bank of the Suyal River.
This rocky shelter is clearly visible from the culvert and the Hanuman temple constructed at Dalband.
The name of the bridge across the river is also called Lakhudiyar Bridge.

Here the paintings can be divided into three categories:- Human, Animal and Geometric patterns in White, Black and Ocher Red.
