It is thought that previously Lord Shiva used to reside here. But after a while the Lord Shri Vishnu had asked for this place to Lord Shiva.
It is said that Nar and Narayan, a portion of Lord Vishnu, makes penance here. Badrinath was originally established as a place of pilgrimage by Adi Shankaracharya in the 9th Century.
Badrinath is regarded as the most important among the four Dhams. Badrinath Temple is also referred to as Badrinarayan. The situation here receives a lot of snow in winter because of which Badrinath Dham is shut down for 6 months. It is believed that an easy way to obtain Lord Vishnu’s blessings is through Badrinath.
